Rachel Giordano was born in Florence, Al in 1973. She has two older sisters and two half brothers. She has been married to her husband, Mike, for nineteen years.
Rachel has been a musician since she was young. Growing up in the birth of the MTV era, she became fascinated with music and different instruments.
When she was twelve, she received her first guitar and taught herself how to play, however, her true passion was the drums. She knew she could play if she only had a set. At the age of eighteen, she joined her first band. It wasn’t until this time that she was able to get behind a set and play, teaching herself all she could. Also, in this band, she played the bass guitar, since they could not find a bass player at the time.
Over the years, she and her husband have moved around, living in Indianapolis, Tampa, Charlotte, and now Florida. It was when the move was made to Florida, that she decided to take up writing, and fell in love with it. She now has three books and a short story under her belt, and is currently working on her fourth. She still plays music and will always do so. She is currently in a band called ‘Talkin Roc’ playing the bass.
Her passion for music led her to the creativity of writing. She is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, bass, drums, piano, and sings.
She still resides in Florida with her husband Mike and their two Boston Terriers, Stewie and Sophie.
Featured Author Questions for Rachel Giordano , author of BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
Who inspired you the most to write BEHIND CLOSED DOORS?
I have to say my husband. He inspires me to write and is my inspiration for most of my projects. He’s my biggest supporter and gives me the strength to keep at it, even on days when I feel like throwing in the towel.
How did you get started with writing this story (as in, how did you start developing the plot, how did you get inspired for it.)
Being a musician, I have responded to quite a few Craigslist ads. I often wondered how I would handle a situation similar to the main character in Behind Closed Doors. So I sat down and began writing. I used certain situations from my own past for the inspiration. Of course, I never ended up in the same situation as the main character, but I did have a time or two where I was a little nervous being in someone’s home that I didn’t know. As I typed, the plot thickened and turned into a worse-case scenario.
Did you have any goals for this book when you wrote it — to get published, or just to finish, etc.?
Of course I had dreams of the book being published and doing well, and that kept me motivated. I felt the book was going to be a good read and I spent countless hours to perfect it and ultimately finish it.
Are any of the characters based on you? Any of the plot lines happen to you?
Yes, the main character is loosely based on me. In regard to the plot lines, if any of the plots actually happened to me, I would be a completely different person today and not for the better!
What authors do you read?
I read Stephen King, Jack Ketchum, John Locke, James Patterson, John Green (one of my favorites), Matthew Quick, just to name a few.
Ok – we have to ask – what are you working on now? What is your next project?
I am currently working on a comedy about a twelve-year-old girl with bullying problems. Not to fret though, because she gets back at her bullies in the most unusual, hilarious way.
